J.B. Hunt Honors 54 Drivers Who Hit 2 to 5 Million Safe Miles
The carrier's 30th annual Million Mile celebration recognized drivers who averaged 7 to 10 years to reach 1 million miles without a DOT-reportable preventable accident.

J.B. Hunt brought 54 drivers to its Lowell headquarters in early May to recognize 2, 3, 4, and 5 million safe miles without a DOT-reportable preventable accident.
How long does it take a driver to hit 1 million safe miles at J.B. Hunt?
On average, it takes a J.B. Hunt driver 7 to 10 years to reach 1 million safe miles without a preventable accident. The company has recognized more than 5,000 drivers who have achieved at least 1 million safe miles since the program started 30 years ago. This year's class included four drivers who hit 4 million safe miles and one who reached 5 million — milestones reached by only a small number of elite drivers.
The annual Million Mile celebration marked its 30th anniversary this year. Drivers and their families spent multiple days at corporate headquarters, including time with company leadership and a walk down the Million Mile Walk of Fame. Employees, investors, and customers lined the route as drivers arrived. All Million Mile drivers' names are etched into the Million Mile Wall at headquarters.
"You can tell a lot about a company by what it chooses to celebrate, and year after year our Million Mile celebration is our biggest opportunity to recognize the drivers who set the standard for safety," Nick Hobbs, J.B. Hunt COO, said. "Multimillion-mile achievements are earned one decision at a time through preparation, disciplined habits, and the judgment to do the right thing on every trip, in every condition, without exception."
What safe-mile programs mean for owner-operators and small fleets
J.B. Hunt's Million Mile program is company-driver focused, but the 7-to-10-year timeline to 1 million safe miles offers a benchmark for owner-operators tracking their own safety records. A clean CSA profile and years of accident-free driving lower insurance premiums and open doors to higher-paying broker contracts. Shippers and brokers vet carriers before tendering loads — verify a carrier's active authority and SAFER profile to see how your safety record stacks up against competitors in your lane.
The celebration also created space for drivers and leaders to share best practices and carry lessons learned back to the road. For owner-operators, that kind of peer-to-peer exchange happens less formally — at truck stops, on driver forums, and through regional carrier associations — but the principle is the same: disciplined habits and judgment on every trip.
What this means for your next insurance renewal
If you're an owner-operator or small-fleet owner tracking toward your own million-mile milestone, document it. Insurers price on CSA scores, accident history, and years in business. A clean record over 7 to 10 years — the same timeline J.B. Hunt drivers average — can cut your liability premium by 15 to 25 percent at renewal, depending on your carrier and state. Keep your PrePass transponder logs, your ELD safety event reports, and your annual MVR clean. When you sit down with your agent, those records are your leverage.
